Why Financial Planning is a Critical Component of SCA’s Approach

Part 4 of Our Stone Creek Advisors Blog Series

Asking for directions, lost, building a financial plan.

Stone Creek Advisors was founded on the idea that, as an investor, you should not take more risk than is necessary to achieve your goals, and you should not take risks that you are not paid to take. That may sound like common sense, but the reality is many investors are positioned based upon long-term historical market returns which guide future return assumptions for various asset classes without consideration for what their actual goals, objectives, and time horizon are.

Without knowing where you are currently with your financial situation and exactly where you are trying to get to, positioning your investments to get you there is at best a guess. Trusting your financial future to a guess is the very definition of an unnecessary risk.

We strongly encourage our clients to take advantage of our comprehensive Financial Planning capabilities (no additional fee for accounts above $250,000). Having a comprehensive financial plan can help reduce financial stress and uncertainty, create peace of mind, and supply a detailed road map to achieving one’s financial goals.

Everyone has their own respective goals and objectives which are deeply personal to them. No comprehensive Financial Plan is one size fits all, it is customized to each client’s unique situation. Financial markets move without regard to anyone’s goals and objectives. They do not care what individual investors are looking to accomplish. Risk exists in numerous forms, the most important of which is the failure to meet your objectives.

By undergoing the Financial Planning process, our clients gain insight into their current financial situation. This process also gives the client clarity and allows them to identify and develop real, measurable, and trackable goals for their financial future. Identifying these future goals allows us to determine what net of fees annualized return is necessary to achieve their goals and objectives. This gives us the ability to build a custom, actively managed portfolio designed to generate the required return and keeps us from taking more risk than is necessary. As we are directly involved with the creation of this “road map,” we will work with our clients to monitor their progress towards the achievement of their financial goals and objectives.
